What if my child is self-isolating?

As part of our COVID planning, we have been working on how to deliver ‘remote learning’ – learning that your child can access from home – if the need arises. We had a lot of success during the lockdown period earlier this year and it was fantastic to see everybody engage very quickly with new technology.

We will expect your child to access remote learning if……

  • Your child needs to self isolate as another member of the household is showing symptoms of Coronavirus and is waiting for a test result.
  • If there is a positive case in school and we are advised to send pupils home.

Please note that there is no expectation that your child completes remote learning if they are unwell with COVID-19 symptoms or are unwell enough to come to school with any other illness.

How do I access the work?

  • Work will be set via Tapestry (Nursery and Reception) and Microsoft Teams (Years 1-6)
  • These can be accessed through any mobile phone, tablet or computer that is connected to the Internet.
  • Children in Years N-4 may need some help accessing the work – we would not necessarily expect them to be logging in themselves, but it is great if they can!

What will work look like?

  • Class teachers will be setting work from Day 2 of your child’s absence.
  • There will be a mixture of work including watching teaching videos, completing worksheets and other activities.
  • Your child’s class teacher will explain what is expected each day.
  • In some classes work can be completed online and in other cases it may be a photograph of the work that is uploaded – your child’s class teacher will explain this when they set the task.
  • Your child’s class teacher will be able to comment on your child’s work once it is complete.

What if we don’t have internet access or a suitable device?

  • Please contact the school office.

I’m not sure how to use Tapestry/Teams?

  • Attached to this letter are some ‘How to’ guides that show how to do some of the most common things.
  • We have sent out a letter with a simple task that will help you get used to using Teams or Tapestry.

What should my child do on Day 1 of their absence?

  • Please see the timetable below for a plan for Day 1 – your child’s class teacher will set work from day 2 onwards

Day 1 Suggested Timetable

Maths

Times Tables Rock Stars – 30 to 60 minutes

Reading

Reading from school reading book or accessing Bug Club (EYFS and KS1 only) – 30 to 60 minutes

Foundation

How can I/my child talk to my child’s class teacher?

  • Parents and carers should be aware that if their child’s class teacher is still teaching in school (for example an individual child or small group of children are self-isolating) that any messages in Teams or Tapestry will be answered at the earliest possible opportunity and that this may not be until later in the day.

I am trying to complete remote learning but am having trouble accessing the work?

We have set up a form that can be accessed here to report any problems. It can also be found on the ‘Our Classes’ section of the school website. A member of staff will be in contact with you as soon as possible.

Where can I find further information?

We have published our Remote Learning Plan on our school website. It can be found under ‘About Us > Covid-19 Information’. You can also email admin@woodvaleprimaryacademy.org
